COUNTRY CLUB HILLS

The owner of this Arlington home had recently purchased it with an eye toward renovation when a tree to fell on the house, causing extensive damage.  Rather than lamenting his bad luck, this resourceful owner saw this as an opportunity to consider a total transformation of the structure. He enlisted Architect Randall Mars of Mclean to redesign the house with a contemporary flair on a scale that fits with its surroundings.

The home blends natural materials, like the Brazilian slate floor, exterior mahogany siding and railings and granite, to create a modern yet warm appeal. This warmth is also echoed in the stained and beamed pine tongue and groove ceiling in the living area. Custom built anigre rift and quarter sawn cabinetry help define spaces, while also housing the owner's art collection. The home's architectural features are beautifully enhanced by its unique use of lighting and the enlargement of windows to allow increased natural light.  A luxurious new master bath was incorporated using aqua glass tile in a curbless walk-in shower. Even the exterior was carefully tended to, as the entrance took on a zen-like appearance, the pool and patio areas were carefully redone in a clean design by Wheat's Landscaping and a private second floor deck was added. The end result is a completely transformed living environment with a strong contemporary appeal.
