POTOMAC RETREAT
The Clients wanted to modernize and enhance the living space of this 1967 large brick home originally constructed for the Client’s parents. Because the Clients work full-time, they wanted the builder, architect and interior designer to work as a team to provide a turn-key remodeled home.
On the interior, an exterior wall was bumped out eight feet to add more space, a bearing wall separating two rooms was opened up to improve flow, and the kitchen and breakfast rooms changed position to take advantage of the view. The kitchen was completely remodeled with white cabinetry, marble countertops and a large island. The breakfast room now leads out to a new screened porch. A number of smaller rooms were gutted to create the new main floor master suite with breakfast bar, custom closets and luxurious bath. Upstairs four bedrooms and their baths were remodeled, a fifth was converted to a sitting room, and a room above the garage became a paneled library with an English walnut fireplace.
Exterior improvements include replacing the brick façade with stucco, replacing double-hung window with larger, two-pane casements to allow the entry of more light, refurbishing the pool, adding pavers, slate, a loggia off the master bedroom, a screened porch and an outdoor kitchen and fireplace.
