THE RESERVE
When a McLean couple targeted the ideal- and very exclusive- neighborhood for their next move, they realized they could not find an existing home to meet their specific needs. With the help of Architect Bruce Hutchinson of Rockville, Maryland they took a dated home on a private lot at the end of a cul-de-sac and transformed it into the perfect, personalized retreat containing the latest in technology.
The majority of the home was gutted and reconfigured to make larger living spaces which fit with the couples' vision of an elegant yet comfortable living environment. Walls were moved to create a grand entry with travertine floors and a sweeping curved staircase as a focal point. The kitchen was totally transformed with the addition of furniture quality cabinets, new granite countertops with custom shaped edges and a La Cornue stove custom ordered from France. A welcoming master suite was designed with his and her home offices as well as custom closets and dressing areas. A once cavernous lower level became a veritable haven for relaxation. A state-of-the-art theatre room with highly advanced technology, acoustic wall panels, and a specially crafted candy case placed high-end entertainment at their fingertips. This level features a spa room with massage tables that allow the owners to bask in the warmth of an eye level fireplace or peacefully watch the fountain on an adjacent terrace. This level also contains a fully equipped exercise room and changing area, professional photography studio, game room and temperature controlled, custom built wine cellar. All spaces were exquisitely decorated with highly specialized faux finishes, elegant furnishings and gold leafing by Mary Anne Antonides of Posh! Interiors Inc. in Vienna. Additionally, the electric, mechanical, security and audiovisual systems in the home can be centrally controlled by a Crestron Home Control System from All Around Technology of Washington, DC.
To complete the renovation, the home's exterior received a total make-over. Existing landscaping was removed and replaced to create a cleaner, more formal appearance. A pool, pool house and patio with walkways and fountain were added. After a whirlwind fourteen month remodeling process, these homeowners can now relax and enjoy the achievement of their vision of the ideal home.
